Presentation Title:  How to Navigate Risks like a Boss

Presented by: August Jaenke

PDU Category: 2 - Strategic

Overview:

Every project has risks—some will pass by almost unnoticed while others will threaten to sink the whole endeavor. The way you prepare for and navigate through the risk minefield will ultimately determine your success or failure. This lighthearted presentation will follow the lives of several risks as they are born, grow, shrink, and ultimately explode or fizzle out.

Speaker Biography:

August is a high-energy project leader who attacks life with tenacity and vigor. He has failed spectacularly and succeeded against all odds…and that was just last week.

Raised in the boondocks, he began a globetrotting spree in his twenties by living in Japan and China before returning to normalcy by graduating with a degree in Mechanical engineering. But upon finding engineering to be overly routine, he elected to become an “Epic Project Manager.” After several “Epic” years, he quit his job and immigrated to South America to start an English teaching institute for adults. Without any contacts, knowledge of the culture, or Spanish-speaking abilities, he bootstrapped his way to profitability.

Returning to the United States, August left the startup lifestyle to lead an electronic health record (EHR) implementation at one of the largest for-profit hospital systems in the country. During a lull between projects, they deployed him to India to set up a 50-person offshore support team. Eventually, he was put in charge of the whole EHR program. Currently, he serves as a project director with the prestigious Cleveland Clinic.

When not working, August still travels voraciously and spends most weekends outside enjoying nature
