Presentation Title: 3D Printing, A Revolution in Manufacturing

Presented by: Kash Gokli, Professor of Manufacturing Practice, Harvey Mudd College

PDU Category: Strategic & Business Management

Presentation Abstract:

3D Printing, sometimes called additive manufacturing is all about making 3D objects rapidly, using plastic and other materials from a digital design. Several 3D printing technologies are available including Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), Stereolithography (SL), and Laser Sintering (LS).

The technology is evolving very fast, and what is good today will become obsolete in just a few months. 3D printers are bringing about revolution in manufacturing and will transform manufacturing, distribution, and consumption. Once considered a novel luxury, 3D printing has proven to yield long-term strategic value by enhancing design-to-manufacturing capabilities and speeding time to market.
