Presentation Title: Strategic Alignment and Project Success
Presented by: Steve Blash PMP, PMI-ACP
PDU Category: Leadership

Program Abstract

Understanding the importance of an organization’s vision, mission and strategic objectives are vital, contributing factors to the success of a project.

The company’s vision defines how it would like to be perceived and its mission and strategy provides direction for the organization and the project’s strategy. Within any business, there are strategic goals that help define the objectives of the organization.  Business management develops a strategic plan and describes how each prioritized strategic objective will be achieved through portfolios, programs and projects.
Project strategic alignment is a method which links an organization's vision, mission, strategic goals and objectives with those of project and program management. Projects are the means by which strategies are executed and enable higher performance.

If an organization's vision, mission and business strategy are shaping and influencing which projects are chosen and initiated, project managers need to understand where individual projects fit into the organizational strategy and what business value is expected to be delivered. Their role is to understand and ensure that projects continually support the organization’s strategic goals and objectives.
