Creativity is one of the most in-demand soft skills sought by employers and one of the most important leadership qualities for navigating increasingly complex business challenges. Creativity has been shown to benefit business by supporting innovation, increasing productivity and growth. While Project Managers are frequently viewed as problem solvers, they are not always perceived – nor do they always perceive themselves - as being creative. The good news is that every project manager has the ability to be creative! This interactive session is designed to reset the perception of what it means to be a “Creative Project Manager” and to identify common barriers to creativity and traditional project management mindsets that have the potential to hinder creativity, and to explore some ways we can leverage technology in order to enhance creativity. Through a combination of presentation, group discussion and hands-on creative exercises, participants will learn be able to:

  • Understand the importance of creativity in project management
  • Stimulate and nurture a culture of creativity in their project teams
  • Sustain the integration of creativity in project management practice

Presenter Biography:

Sabrina Adewumi is a multi-faceted professional with 20+ years combined experience in project management, business consulting and interior design. She has worked with clients in the private and public sectors to deliver technology implementations, workplace renovation/relocation, website development, eGovernment and organizational change management initiatives. Through SADE Studio, a boutique strategy and design consultancy, her work has focused on creative project management along with extensive volunteer service in design, social media, publishing, event support and multimedia production. She is a trained artist, a former competitive swimmer, an avid baker, a published children’s author and a lover of travel and adventure. She has been PMP® certified and a member of PMI since 2006, and currently volunteers with the PMI Orange County Chapter in Southern California, where she resides with her husband and three children.

However, the most important power skill of a successful project manager is the ability to select the proper form of Leadership, depending on the specific project scenario. In this presentation, Professor Kevin Reilly will review the characteristics of Autocratic Command and Control Leadership, Influential/Adaptive Leadership, and Servant Leadership, and the pros and cons of each of these forms of Leadership, to help ensure both team and project success.

Professor Kevin Reilly is a Project Management and Agile instructor renowned for his comprehensive approach to teaching and commitment to student success. He has over 13 years of experience guiding business professionals through PMI Exam Prep Training, Project Management, and General Agile Courses, and over 25 years of experience in the Software Development and IT sectors. He currently teaches courses for PMI chapters, private corporations, non-profit organizations, military and government agencies, and colleges and universities around the world.

Volunteerism is another hallmark of Kevin’s career. For over 13 years, he has been a member of all five Southern California PMI Chapters and has served as a volunteer at the Annual Conference and Professional Development Day level, V.P. level, and Director level. Sam Drauschak is the Co-founder and Chief Process Scientist at Truvle, whose mission is to assist businesses in reducing wasteful activity by providing them with innovative tools, software and expert content. With over a decade of experience in management consulting, Sam has worked with companies in financial services, resources, legal services, media, and digital services to simplify and improve their operations using business science fundamentals.

He is the author of Becoming A Conscious Business, a book that explores the efficiency of biological systems and how to apply them to modern businesses.

Leading his team at Truvle, Sam helps organizations achieve maximum efficiency in business processes and energy flow. Samuel has also developed the Truvle Mapping Language (TML), a universal process mapping language adopted as the standard for multiple large enterprises globally.

Sam has been a featured speaker at IIBA and Columbia University, sharing his experience in process consulting. He was also proudly featured in the Top 100 Magazine, recognized for his exceptional contributions to process mapping language. Sam's expertise spans process improvement, cost reduction, operational redesign, and more, working with global firms and Silicon Valley clients.

John Signo is currently a Senior Project Manager at Bank of America, managing cybersecurity projects with the goal of reducing identified risks while protecting the enterprise and its clients. He has previous work experience at J Walter Thompson, IBM, and BNSF Railway, providing Project Management and Systems Engineering work. John continues to be an active member of PMI Dallas and PMI Dallas Toastmasters since 2014 and 2015, respectively.  He is an advocate for PMI certifications and currently holds the PMI PMP and PMI ACP certifications. In his spare time, he provides sessions on “Branding to Land Your Next Gig” using LinkedIn, resumes, and an online ATS tool.  In addition, he continues to mentor PMP and ACP candidates as they prep for their certification exams.
