Presentation Abstract
The topics Morley will discuss in this presentation come from a Construction Users Roundtable (CURT) event in 2024, and were found to be the most troubling in the North American construction industry,. They include the following:
- Errors or omissions in the contract documents
- Failure to understand and/or comply with contractual obligations
- Poorly drafted or incomplete and unsubstantiated claims
- Owner directed changes
- An unrealistic contract duration or completion dates
In this presentation, Morley will address these issues and what you can do to mitigate or eliminate them.
Speaker Bio
Morley Selver has Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and over 45 years of ‘real world’ project management experience. He has worked in industry, with and for consultants, and his own consulting business. His project experience includes operations and maintenance, research and development, project management of small to medium size projects, construction management of large industrial projects, mechanical installation of heavy industrial equipment, commissioning and startup of industrial plants, and plant management.
He has worked in Canada and the USA in operating pulp and paper mills, oil & gas projects, terminals & pipelines, on North Slope oil projects, panel board plants, and in the recycling industry.
He is the author of “Plant Project Engineering Guidebook”, has developed and taught workshops internationally in “Fundamentals of Project Management”, “Contract Management For Field Personnel”, Fundamentals of Capital Project Cost Control”, “EPC Project Management”, and “Operators As Part Of The Project Team”.
He is a Certified Senior Project Manager with the International Project Management Association, is the Past Director of Certification and a ‘First Assessor’ for the Project Management Association of Canada (PMAC-AGPC). He is currently working as a project management consultant and develops project management training videos for ProjectBites (ProjectBites.com).

By practicing those behaviours that foster the greatest culture of inclusion in our meetings and interactions: Power Skills. This interactive presentation will engage participants by providing opportunities to explore their own practice of using inclusive behaviours.

Dr. Katherina Tarnai-Lokhorst, P.Eng., FEC, FGC (Hon), BASc, MBA, DSocSci
Katherina’s influence as a role model for women in engineering and physical sciences crosses disciplines and international boundaries: an award-winning educator in mechanical engineering, she has collaborated with scholars and industry representatives around the globe. Katherina lives an authentically transdisciplinary life, applying her deep understanding of the impact of technology on society and her passion for making the world a better place to co-create an engineering culture where each and every person feels they belong, feels welcome to follow their path and feels free to fulfill their calling. Katherina participates on multiple boards including the Degree Quality Assessment Board for the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training, the UBC Alumni Advisory Council, and as Board Chair for both the Artisanal Gold Council (artisanalgold.org) and The BC Association for Living Mindfully (bcalm.ca). Her latest project is “The Edge”, a series of vignettes, blog posts and infographics that enable readers to explore the edge of their understanding of how behaviour impacts culture.

The appearance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) promises to have a significant positive impact on the Project Management profession.
